Starting from the 5th position, Barry Baltus managed to overtake all his competitors in the first laps to dominate the rest of the race and finished on the first place at Estoril for the first round of the CEV Moto3 Junior World Championship.
After having recently performed very promising tests in CEV and Red Bull Rookies Cup and a year of learning in 2018 within these same two categories, Barry Baltus has perfectly started his season this Sunday! Involved in CEV Moto3 Junior World Championship, the young Zelos-Classic 21 rider immediately demonstrated his potential during this first weekend of racing in Estoril despite difficult weather conditions.
After doing the fifth-fastest time in qualifying on Saturday, he clocked then the fastest lap during the Sunday morning Warm-Up with more than a second ahead of the second competitor. In the race, it took Barry only one lap to take first place in the standings. First place that he will keep almost throughout the race by repelling the attacks of his opponents and forcing them to take big risks that led them to make mistakes.
This first victory in this category with his new team Angel Nieto, 2018 CEV champion, promises a thrilling season for Barry Baltus!
Barry Baltus: "It's amazing to start the season like this, with a new team and with the victory just at the very beginning. It was a great race, I made some mistakes and in the last laps I felt more pressure, but it is a very good feeling."
The next meeting of the season will take place in Valencia on April 27 and 28.
